More feedback from Dennis · 01 Mar 2022You get a military discount of 20% (huge) if you're a veteran, but the glint of that acknowledgment is soon dulled by the unmistakable laziness in the curriculum as soon as you begin the course material. I barely get into its steps for API 1169, and it's all references—the very same ones printed at the end of the actual API 1169 standard itself. “Read this standard: ****,” or “Read and study this recommended practice: ****,” then take our short quiz to see if you memorized it sufficiently. Ridiculous. A “course” is supposed to stand in for a remote lecture when taken online. That means consolidating the material and boiling it down to the essentials—the meat and potatoes—then quizzing on that. Do that a few times, then test on those quizzes. Does this really need to be spelled out for these people at Velocity Training? Have any of them taken years of higher education, or did they sleep through it and scrape by with a passing grade? Paying $795, or in my case $636, for a course that has you simply read through a combined ~750 pages of recommended practices and standards is done in bad faith. This is not a good use of your time, and not the most efficient way to study for the API 1169 exam. Don't take it from me, though—do some research before blowing your cash on this. That is to say... if they ever publish this review and it's read by anyone.
I just wanted to let you know that I passed my API 1169 exam yesterday! The exam was actually much easier than I expected. I only opened the reference materials for about three questions because almost everything felt familiar from your training. I spent the last 30 days preparing for this exam and went through all of your lessons. I have to say, the lessons with the slides and voice-over were the best part of the course. They were easy to follow, easy to take notes from, and really helped me remember the material. Honestly, it felt like I gained pipeline field experience through your training. The quizzes were amazing as well. Since English isn't my first language, I struggled with some of the technical terms. I ended up Googling the words and looking at images to better understand concepts like berms, plugs, breakers, barriers, and many others. That really helped reinforce what you were teaching. During the exam, I could relate most of the questions directly back to your lessons. I honestly don't believe someone could pass this exam without studying. You really need to understand the core concepts behind API 1169. Memorizing answers alone isn't enough. Thank you again, Matt, for creating such an excellent course and for all the support and encouragement along the way. I'll definitely be recommending your training to anyone preparing for API 1169. Thanks again!

“The training was valuable”
I completed the 30 days of studying, and overall I learned a lot from the training. There were, however, a few things I did not like. On several occasions, questions were marked incorrect even though I had entered the same answer that was later shown as the correct answer. I also found the testing requirements frustrating. If you do not score 100%, you do not receive credit and have to retake the test. Repeating the same test over and over can lead to test fatigue and makes it more difficult to stay focused. Despite those issues, the training was valuable. One of the biggest things I learned was that I had to change the way I approached inspection. Instead of simply thinking about how I had inspected in the past, I had to learn to look at inspection from the perspective and expectations of API. That change in mindset was probably one of the most valuable things I took away from the training.

I wanted to let you know that I completed and passed the API 1169 exam. On my first attempt in April, I scored a 393. After deciding to better prepare for my second attempt, I enrolled in your training program. The course gave me a much stronger understanding of the material and significantly increased my confidence going into the exam. I took the exam this morning and passed with a score of 430. Thank you for the training and support. The course was a valuable resource in helping me achieve a passing score.

I took my scheduled API1169 exam yesterday and I'm happy to inform you that I passed rather easily. Thank you very much for your class prep I helped me.
I think the class needed at least 1 more day to cover all the material and answer questions. It was a little overwhelming the amount of material we went over in just 4 day's. I did agree with the time frame that we had every day from 8am to 3pm but seemed to have a lot of homework each day. 5-6 hours of homework every day was a bit much and by the end of class during the final practice exam I was extremely tired and just wanted to get it done and leave to go home. It was also difficult to concentrate during the exam. Overall the instructor, Matt Wood was very knowledgeable about the pipeline process and questions asked about the material. He kept the class interesting and enjoyable. I highly recommend the class to any other person trying to become more familiar about the certification. Also I appreciate Jessica and her timely responses to any questions that were brought up. I appreciate Velocity Training for all information and time that I received. Hopefully I can pass the exam on December 10th so I don't have to take the class again and sit next to any computer illiterate students. Thank you very much Matt and Jessica. Sincerely Keith Dodd
Overall good experience, hands on with teacher helps learning
I believe the online and classroom experience was spot on. Being old and set in my ways, this course has taught me new ways to study and comprehend. Specifically, I appreciated: * The course's structure, which was easy to follow. * The instructors' ability to explain complex concepts clearly. * The interactive elements that kept me engaged.
Matt did a great job teaching and explaining topics that I was very new too. I enjoyed this class & recommend to everyone trying to obtain an API 1169 certification.
The amount of information in this course is tremendous and the instructor kept the focus in tact for specific learnings so that each sections were retained in memory. Matt made a difference this week for sure.

I missed the pre study material like several others. Matt helped us out getting up to speed. I missed several emails about this so not really the courses fault. I would appreciate being able to speed up the voice. I'm an oddball and always listen to things at a faster speed. I understand the issues with retention that some may have with that option.
I was able to pass my exam, I owe a lot of credit to your training program. Even with several years of experience on pipeline construction ROWs, as a surveyor. There are regulations and regular practices that I did not know about and were educated about through Velocity.
