Q: Do I have to fill out an application to sit for the API 1169 exam?

• A: Yes. Every individual wanting to take the API 1169 must submit an application. All test periods have application deadlines, so be sure to check those deadlines when you apply. To begin your application, simply CLICK HERE. 

Q: When do I have to submit my API 1169 application to API?

• A: API offers the exam during "testing windows". These windows are typically 2-3 weeks in length. Each testing window has a deadline for applications. The application just needs to be submitted by the deadline date. To see the current API 1169 schedule and deadlines, simply CLICK HERE.

Q: How much is the application fee?

• A: The current fee for the application (exam) is $480 USD. You might qualify for a discount because of who you work for. Check with your company to find this out. 

Q: How much experience do I need to sit qualify for the exam?

• A: API 1169 Pipeline Construction Inspector Certification requirements are based on work experience acquired within the last 20 years. Education and other certifications may also be needed.​ You can see if you qualify HERE.

Q: Is the API 1169 exam difficult?

• A: It varies by the individual but we would say it is. This is based off of the pass rate of people attempting the exam without proper training or preparation. API is very skilled when deploying these international exams and the questions require analytical thinking and reference skills. No matter the experience level, this test will challenge everyone because of its format.

Q: How long is the exam and how many questions does it have?

• A: The API 1169 exam is timed at 3 hours and consists of 115 multiple choice questions; however, only 100 are graded. Some questions are general knowledge (closed book) and some are references (open book). We prepare you with the skills needed to understand how to pass the exam. 

Q: What does the API 1169 exam cover?

• A: API has changed its Body of Knowledge for 2023 starting with the April testing window. We cover all the information in the new Body of Knowledge starting with our April students. You can see the current Body of Knowledge by CLICKING HERE. 

Q: Can I take the exam online, too?

• A: No. The exam is proctored by a testing facility organization called Prometric. There are hundreds of these centers located throughout the world and likely one near you. Once API approves your application, they will send you an exam authorization letter with an ID number. You can then use this number to schedule your exam at Prometric. • A: It's easy and will take less than 5 minutes. We offer 100% online training options and 4 day classroom (instructor-led) courses. You should decide on what format will fit you best. Q: Does Velocity Training offer a guarantee for their training?
