API 1169 Application Policy Change Alert
Application Changes for the API 1169 Certification
04-14-2016

The word is spreading fast. For those of you that haven’t heard, the API 1169 certification is going to become a requirement in the near future. (Canada has already implemented this. Their deadline is 2018.) This means that if you do not hold this certification, you may not have a job. This test is not a walk in the park either. As of today, there are only 160 people that have passed this test. Will you be the next to pass and hold this highly sought out certification?
Let’s start with the application process; filling out the application to see if you qualify. Once you fill out all the necessary information on experience, go back through it with a fine tooth comb.
Once the application is submitted, you realize that there was something you left out or something you typed in wrong. You want to go back in and make some changes. Well, API will reject your application and charge you for trying to make changes to it. This went into effect March 28, 2016. What will the charge be you ask? When API rejects your application, they will refund your money minus $100. Then on top of that, you have to reapply and pay again. The full price.
So, first things first, make sure you meet their requirements to take the API 1169 exam. (Check out if you qualify here) If you do, great, but like I stated before, make sure you have all your information typed in correctly. Read over all the information you typed in at least a few times before you commit to pushing the submit button.
A few other things you might want to know is that it could take a few weeks before you know if your application is accepted, especially if your work history is extensive. If you qualify, don’t sweat it, just be patient. The application sends out an email to all your past and present employers, so you have to wait for them to confirm your work experience. After all that, you will get confirmation and then you can take your exam. Good luck to you all. One word of advice, you might want to study before you take it…
